Puppy & Dog advice

Thinking of Getting a Dog?

So, you’ve decided to bring a dog into your life—congratulations! But now comes the big question: should you choose a purebred puppy, a mixed breed (Heinz 57), or adopt a rescue?

This is not a decision to take lightly. It’s important to carefully consider what kind of life you can offer a dog, and whether you truly understand the commitment involved. Sadly, many dogs end up in rescue centres because their needs weren’t fully understood from the start.

Whether you’re unsure where to start, stuck between options, or already have your new dog but are struggling with behaviour, I am here to help.

Puppy Advice

Getting your puppy off to the right start lays the foundation for a calm, happy, well-mannered adult dog. The first four months of life are critical, what your puppy experiences during this period shapes their future behaviour more than anything else.

With so much (and often conflicting) advice out there, it’s easy to make well-meaning mistakes that can lead to reactivity or other behaviour issues later on.

I’ll guide you step-by-step to:

  • Understand your puppy’s needs – from play and exercise, to rest and mental stimulation

  • Socialise safely – introducing your puppy to people, dogs, and other animals

  • Prevent behaviour problems – using positive reinforcement and clear, consistent routines

Together, we’ll create a plan so your puppy grows into the balanced, friendly companion you imagined.
